Guard Shamar Givance Signs with Shooting Stars

The Scarborough Shooting Stars of the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) announced Friday that they have signed Brampton guard Shamar Givance. Givance averaged 19.9 points, 4.1 rebounds, 7.1 assists and 1.6 steals in his first year as a pro through 34 games for Lucenec of the Slovakia-NIKE SBL. The playmaker posted seven double-double games in points and assists including a season-high 14 assists on 21 points this past November.


The 5-foot-11 guard played his collegiate career at University of Evansville before transferring to the University of Texas at El Paso for his graduate year. During his senior year with the Aces, Givance reached the 1000-point mark in his final home game becoming the 52nd player in program history to do so. He averaged 11 points, 3.8 rebounds, 4.4 assists and 1.9 steals in 33.5 minutes through 32 games during his last year at UTEP, ranking eighth in school history with 62 steals on the season and leading his team in assists. 


Givance is the ninth new addition to the Shooting Stars joining 2024 signees Devoe Joseph, Nick Lewis, Hason Ward, Jaden Campbell, 2023 CEBL All-Canadians Kadre Gray and  Jackson Rowe, and 2024 CEBL Draft Picks Koat Thomas and Davante Hackett. The Shooting Stars return four players from last year’s championship team including the CEBL all-time leading scorer Cat Barber, Kalif Young, Danilo Djuricic and Kyree Walker..


The reigning CEBL Champions open training camp on May 15. Their season begins on the road at the Canada Life Centre on May 24 where they tip-off against the Winnipeg Sea Bears. The team hosts the Niagara River Lions at the Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre on June 1 for their home opener and championship banner drop. For more information on the team, tickets and schedule visit
